EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

(ERT)

The Quincy Police Department's Emergency Response Team or, as is more commonly referred to, the ERT Unit is the department's tactical response team for high-risk incidents.  Originally formed in 1984, the team is staffed by a compliment of dedicated, professional officers that have taken on this position as a secondary job assignment.  Members are selected to the team after passing a physical fitness test, being interviewed by the Team Commander and Team Leaders and displaying a high level of proficiency with their firearm.

The team trains frequently to sharpen their skills and become more proficient at the tasks associated with high-risk incidents.  The ERT has served a number of high-risk search warrants and has successfully culminated several barricaded situations.  Having an Emergency Response Team presents various options for those who command highly volatile situations in the field and is an important component of the department's tactical response capabilities.
