The Elder Service Officer

The Quincy Police Department has been working with the West Central Area Agency on Aging since 1995 in an effort to provide specialized police service to meet the needs of senior citizens in our community.  The department collaborated with the West Central Area Agency on Aging and other law enforcement agencies to establish the TriAD and the Elder Watch program in our area.  Up until 2001, police services had been rendered by a criminal investigator of the Quincy Police Department on a part-time basis.  In order to establish a more consistent availability of police services for elders, the Quincy Police Department established, in March of 2001, the full-time position of Elder Service Officer who has an office in the Senior Citizens Center.

Investigator Thomas Liesen is the Elder Service Officer.

His office (Room 206) is located in the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center located at 639 York in Quincy, Illinois .

He may be contacted by calling   217/223-5700 extension 104   or he may also be contacted through the Quincy Police Department at  217/228-4470 or through the Quincy/Adams County 9-1-1 emergency center,

whose non-emergency number is   217/222-9360  and they will page him.

Investigator Thomas Liesen investigates crimes against the elderly.  Reported crimes investigated by him are; theft, burglary, robbery,  accidents, elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitations, scams, telephone complaints, neighborhood disputes and peace disturbance,  just to name a few.

ELDER WATCH

West Central Illinois TriAD offers a program for senior citizens over the age of  60 and disabled persons with special needs called Elder Watch.  Participants in this program fill out a form providing some basic medical and emergency contact information.

This form is then kept on file at the Adams County 9-1-1 Center.

In the event of an emergency call to the 9-1-1 Center, medical and emergency contact information of a person who is a registered participant of the Elder Watch program can easily be relayed to responding emergency personnel
