For those looking for study guides to assist them in the written test I wish

books available for preparing for the written test, and since most of them
require purchasing I do not feel comfortable in recommending one book or guide
over another.
If you do an internet search using Entry Level Police Officer Examinations
or Entry Level Police Officer Study Guides or like terms you will see
just how many books and guides are available to you.
You might also want to check with your local book store to see if they can
recommend a book that you could purchase through them.

Department employs 77 full time police officers. They fill the
positions of patrol officers, patrol shift Sergeants and Lieutenants,
investigators and Investigative supervisors and specialty positions within our
department. There are two twelve-hour patrol shifts, consisting of two
squads per shift, with shift assignments being
picked by officer seniority. Patrol shifts are staffed 24 hours a day, seven
days a week in all
kinds of weather. All officers of our

All newly hired police officers start
out as probationary police officers. The probationary period for a
Quincy Police Officers is 18 months. All newly hired officers must attend and
pass a Basic Police Training course certified by the Illinois Law
Enforcement Officers Training and Standards Board, unless they are already certified by the
I.L.E.T.S.B. The
basic training course is 10-12 weeks long. Newly hired officers are required to
pass the P.O.W.E.R. test at the academy or they will not be admitted.
Currently, we send officers to either the Illinois State Police Academy
in Springfield, the Police Training Institute at the University of
Illinois-Champaign/Urbana, or at the Belleville Area College. The
newly hired officer must pass this basic training and the written test
given by the I.L.E.T.S.B.
Upon completion of the academy training, the probationary officer
will return to the department and enter the Field Training Program.
The Field Training Program is an intensive 18 week process
designed to train and evaluate the new officer in all aspects
of being
a Quincy Police Officer. During this period, the officer rides with
a Field
Training Officer
(F.T.O.) and is evaluated on a daily basis.
All aspects of a patrol officers job, from job knowledge to practical
application of that knowledge is evaluated. Upon successful
completion of the Field Training Program, the probationary officer
is then certified for solo patrol duty and assigned to a patrol shift.
The probationary officer is then evaluated every three months
