Pro-Act Unit

The Pro-Act Unit consists of two officers  who work out of an office on the first floor in City Hall.  Their primary responsibilities are the organization and operation of the numerous departmental Community Oriented Policing programs.  Programs such as Crime Prevention, Crime Stoppers, Neighborhood Watch, Citizen Police Academy, Civilian Volunteers in Policing, DARE, and Business Trespass just to name a few.

Pro-Act officers also develop public relations programs to publicize police/community-oriented projects.  They work closely with the local news media on relevant community oriented program information, agency objectives, problems and successes.

Some of their time is spent on making presentations such as crime prevention, drug abuse, and police/community relations to various community groups, businesses, schools, service clubs and church groups.  They also conduct residential and business inspections as requested to determine security risks and make recommendations for improving same.

If you have a public relations question about the department or one of the above listed Community Oriented Policing programs , the Pro-Act Unit should be your first contact to find your answer.

Their phone number is: 217/ 228-4485
